Did you know that Jesus Himself used “new wine” as a metaphor or picture to show that when God the Holy Spirit serves old, familiar truths that have always been written in the Bible to you in a new and fresh way, and your eyes are opened to truly see and truly hear what the Lord really wanted to say and show you through it — something happens inside you!

It is truly as if that “old truth” or very familiar passage of Scripture suddenly breaks open before you, and you really understand it for the first time!

And when that happens, everything changes! It is as if someone puts a new pair of glasses on you, and as though for the first time you truly see and hear what the Lord Himself wanted to say to you through it.

And once you have heard God speak to you about something, it changes you forever!

You can never be the same again. You can never think the same way about that thing again. You can never look at it or speak about it in the same way again.

But more than that: once this has happened to you, you never again fit comfortably into old ways of thinking, old structures, or how things used to be. No — “new wine” changes you! New wine only fits comfortably into new wineskins.

This is what happened to Dr Christo Nel in his life.

For more than 14 years he was simply an ordinary minister in the Dutch Reformed Church. Yes, he was a Christian believer who knew and loved the Lord. But then the Lord began serving him “new wine”, and Dr Christo had to begin changing — thinking differently and speaking differently about things.

Because Dr Christo loved children and young people, he had to learn to retell what he had heard and discovered in simple language that children and young people could understand — and of course, then their parents suddenly understand it too!

This is what Dr Christo will minister here, week after week, in this part of our website, in his simple but clear way.
